The Shoebill is a very large stork-like bird, which mainly lives in swamps in Sudan, Uganda, eastern Zaire and Zambia. Its total population is estimated at between 5000 and 8000 individuals and classified as Vulnerable. Main threats are habitat destruction, disturbance and hunting. Shoebills feed in muddy waters, preying on fish, frogs, reptiles such as baby crocodiles, birds and small mammals.
