Shoin and Sasunoma Garden

Okinawa Prefecture

Okinawa Prefecture
Naha , Japan

The garden is an integral aspect that connects the Shoin and Sasunoma, and is the only full-scale garden within the castle grounds. The invited Sapposhi, or the Chinese investiture envoys wrote poetry that told of the beauty of the garden. A verse from one of the poems can be loosely translated as, “The pine and cycad palms are planted alternately between the strangely shaped rocks.”
Destroyed by the fire in October 2019.
