The scroll reads: "There is a lot of debate among Geographers as to where to place this cost of China and the island of Giapan, which in this painting are located according to the opinion of the more modern scholars…China is inhabited by people full of intelligence and equipped with all arts, mechanical and liberal sciences and especially good in Mathematics, and they started using printing and artillery a long time before us.
