The dark blue apron was made from a cloth commemorating the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. The edges of the cloth show 48 different national flags, with the Olympic rings in each corner. The swastika flag for Germany at top centre was later sewn up while this side of the cloth was pleated for the apron’s waistband in a manner ensuring that the swastika is no longer visible: both the function and the message of the cloth have hence been radically changed.
