There were two issues of silver pennies. The first (1216-1248) was similar in type to the last issue of Henry II. In 1248 the reverse design was altered to a cross with limbs extending to the edge of the coin, and having three pellets in each angle. In this image the inscription CANT, which indicates that the coin was struck at the Canterbury Mint, has been highlighted.
