Siamese Evening Bag

Siamese silver evening bag fitted with Ronson cigarette lighter, mirror, and receptacles for cigarettes and cosmetics. The front of the bag shows a boat and temple scene, and the back a pair of Siamese dancing figures. There are figures on both sides of the lighter and the background of these and the designs around the edges are blackened silver so that the figures show silver and the background black. Handle (12 1/2" long) is a series of twenty-six silver links set with black and silver design figures. The back of one of the links is stamped: "Thai Naxon / Siam / Silver 885 [or 88s]." Engraved inside bag: "To Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt / with high regards and best wishes / From La'iad Pibulsonggram." FDR Library Museum Collection, MO 1970.4 .
