A rich and heavy complete gold ring with four enlarged, oval sections separated by groups of four ridges. Each enlarged section carries a design on nielloed background. These are two different floral motifs, one crouched animal and another, heavily worn animal design. The ring is complete and in excellent condition.

  • Provenance: This group of objects known as 'The West Yorkshire Hoard' was discovered by a metal detectorist in two groups (2008 T553 and 2009 T221) in the Leeds area of West Yorkshire. The finds were reported to the Portable Antiquities Scheme and qualified as Treasure, so were sent to The British Museum. The objects were on loan from DCMS in Leeds City Museum from 2nd November 2011, and were officially released to Leeds Museums and Galleries on 13th January 2012.
