Provenance: This chair was part of a suite of seating furniture made for Robert Walter Rutherford (1788-1852), son of New Jersey Senator John Rutherford, and a member of the New Jersey state legislature. It was donated to the White House as part of the Association of Interior Designers refurnishing of the White House Library.
