Cannon with the emblems of François I Side view

Musée de l'Armée - Hôtel des Invalides

Musée de l'Armée - Hôtel des Invalides
Paris, France

Decorated with the emblem of François I (1494–1547), this bronze cannon is a perfect example of the French artillery of the Renaissance. Indeed, its morphology is typical of the firearms created at this time. It has two main sections: the reinforce, which here is decorated on the back of the bearings with a crowned salamander placed on an amulet with the motto, Nutrisco et Extingo and the barrage, which is scattered with fleurs-de-lis and the letter F.
