This exhibition was inaugurated to mark the fifty anniversary of the anti-communist Hungarian Revolution (23 October – 4 November 1956). It presents the sequence of events that led to the outbreak of the revolution, then the tense days during which the Nagy Imre government won popular backing for multiparty pluralism and withdrawal from the Warsaw Pact, and finally the brutal crushing of the anti-communist movement by Soviet tanks. The central element of the room is an incomplete list of the victims of this spontaneous freedom movement. The exhibition was held in partnership with the Institute for the History of the 1956 Revolution in Budapest.
