Public donations to the garden maintenance fund, despite the high turnout, were disappointing, prompting the Garden Panel to increase the recommended sum displayed on the donation box to £1 (from 50p). This was still inclusive of a garden leaflet until about 1989 when an additional 50p was requested to cover the cost of the Guide.
