Signed Jug

Signed and dated jug created by the enslaved South Carolina potter David Drake, also known as Dave the Potter, celebrated for his unique inscriptions on pottery. Drake's works are especially noteworthy given that literacy was forbidden for enslaved individuals in South Carolina at the time. From the collection of the International African American Museum.
