Silent keyboard of Ignacy Jan Paderewski

The silent practice travel keyboard in a portable case belonged to Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Purchased before 1914 at Mrs. A.M. Virgil’s in New York, it was used by the master composer for practicing while travelling. Later, Paderewski gave the keyboard to the brilliant pianist Józef Turczyński as a token of gratitude.

Ignacy Jan Paderewski was a Polish pianist, composer, statesman and politician. He was born on 6, November 1860 in Kuryłówka, and died in 29, June 1941 in New York. Paderewski’s versatile activities as a composer, pianist, politician statesman, and a generous philanthropist made him stand out among the greatest personalities of the cultural and political life in Poland and abroad, in the first half of the 20th century.
