Silhouette: "Revolutionary War"

This zinc silhouette was one of five made in the summer of 1939 specifically for the National Park Service's alcove in the original exhibitions of the U.S. Department of the Interior Museum. It was constructed from plate glass, zinc, chrome paper, and molding at an average cost of $35.31 per foot. The scene from left to right depicts: an American colonial commander on horseback with a sword; five colonial patriots aiming rifles to right; a man with a flag; three men loading a cannon. The scene is more or less mirrored on the right side but with eight British Redcoats--including one fallen soldier--and a broken cannon. The silhouette was displayed in a high, recessed backlit niche near the ceiling.
