Qi (绮) is a monochromatic silk twill on which patterns are made visible by diagonal parallel threads. In Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties (220 to 589 AD), qi had been a luxurious silk fabric only second to jin-silk (锦), a Chinese-style silk weave usually with exquisite motifs, sometimes applying gold or silver threads. Qi was also called ling in the Tang dynasty (618-907 AD).
