Silk with Floral Design

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

The fabric in this piece is comprised of two sets of wefts with a 1:2 ratio of white weft to ground weft. The white weft is used to weave voluptuous flower patterns and comprises a coarse thread. The ground weft, on the other hand, is used for the lining, consisting of a dark floral pattern, creating an effect which is remarkably similar to the traditional Chinese flowing water pattern, even though a different method was used.
