China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

An argyle motif is accented by woven and white flowers with eight petals atop a purple weft knitted gauze. Two pairs of peacock are embroidered on the two ends and the surrounding is covered with flowers. Peacocks are sacred in Buddhism and Hinduism, in which peacocks are believed to be reincarnation of the mythical "phoenix", which symbolizes auspiciousness.
