As gifts of silver ceased with the dwindling fur trade, Aboriginal silversmiths began crafting ornaments of their own. The Luckenbooth brooch – a single or double heart surmounted by a crown – is a Scottish design much favoured among the Haudenosaunee. Here it has been reinterpreted, with the double-heart terminating in eagle heads. Silver jewellery was carefully polished before being worn, as tarnished objects symbolized tarnished relationships.

- Description: Le déclin de la traite des fourrures a marqué la fin de la production d'objets en argent offerts en cadeau. Les orfèvres autochtones ont alors commencé à créer leurs propres ornements. La broche Luckenbooth - un coeur simple ou double surmonté d'une couronne - est un modèle écossais qui plaisait beaucoup aux Haudenosaunee. Ici, il a été réinterprété, le double coeur se terminant par des têtes d'aigle. Avant d'être portés, les bijoux en argent étaient soigneusement polis, puisque les objets ternis symbolisaient de mauvaises relations.
