Silver dish with busts of the twelve Apostles, made in Brasov, Transylvania, by the goldsmith George May II. During the 17th c. the silversmiths’ workshops in Transylvania supplied the hospodars of Moldavia and Wallachia and the great monastic centres of the East with luxurious liturgical silverware. A characteristic feature of these works is the adaptation of the iconography to Post-Byzantine models, while reflecting the decorative trends of central European silverwork.1684-1712. Diam. 0.238 m.
