"Climb to the top of the ladder not far from the east, you will see an beacon tower with a foundation of 5.6 meters long and a width of only 4.7 meters from east to west, which is the Fairy Tower. Fairy Tower has two “eyes”, which is the most slender one among the beacon towers of Simatai Great Wall. It stands tall and upright, just like a fairy standing on the top of the mountains.
The old man said that it was very difficult for our ancestors to repair this section of the Great Wall, and there was only enough room for two feet on the ridge, not to mention how difficult it was to transport masonry. There is no place for stacking materials at all, so how was this beacon tower built? The story goes that in a village not far from Fairy Tower, there is a handsome shepherd guy who lost his parents in his childhood and made a living by herding sheep for others. He lived a poor life by himself. It didn't take long for him to get along well with soldiers, and he often asked the soldiers to tell about the wars. The soldiers liked him very much and often gave him steamed bread to eat. However, when they began to repair the fairy tower, many soldiers fell ill due to heat and overwork. People working on the tower became fewer, but the set deadline was approaching, and they would be punished if they failed to finish on time. Soldiers were extremely anxious, and so was the shepherd guy. His big brothers who treated him well all fell ill, but he couldn’t help at all. In desperation, he decided to drive sheep and carry bricks without telling the owner. As a result, many sheep fall to death, and the shepherd guy was also wounded.
One day, the owner came to look for sheep. In sight of this, he was so angry that he beat the shepherd guy. The soldiers saved the shepherd guy from being beaten. This time, the shepherd guy was determined not to herd sheep for his owner, but to join the army and repair the tower, and asked to build the beacon tower with his own hands. Shepherd guy eats and lives in the mountains and works all day. But after all, one person's strength is limited. A month has passed and the foundation has just been trimmed. One day, when the shepherd guy was taking a nap, it became misty and breezy around the top of the mountain, and the masonry ran to the top of the mountain by itself. When the shepherd guy woke up, he was surprised to find that the foundation of the building had been built. The clouds did not disperse for several days in a row. Every time the shepherd guy woke up, he saw that the wall platform became much higher. Once, he pretended to be asleep and squinted at the beacon tower. After a while, when the breeze blew, he saw a fairy standing in the clouds swinging her sleeves, and the city bricks were built on the enemy floor. This dumbstruck the shepherd guy. Suddenly, the fairy fell beside the him and said, "Get up guy, don't pretend. I think you are honest and upright, and you are not afraid of difficulties, so I came to your help." Upon hearing this, he took a pause and said, "Thank you, miss fairy, for your help. It seems that even if I sacrifice my life, I will not be able to help the soldiers build this beacon tower before the deadline. You are my savior. How can I repay you?" The fairy smiled and said, "I originally came to the mortal world just for fun. Seeing you working so hard, and the beautiful scenery here, I want to build a palace for myself." The shepherd guy was so happy, and he made up his mind to make this beacon tower the most beautiful building. Finally, the beacon tower stood up under the joint efforts of shepherd guy and fairy. They grew fond of each other in this process and started a relationship. But the good times didn't last long. The fairy was recalled to heaven and punished. Shepherd guy sat on the top of the beacon tower built with the fairy and called the fairy thousands of times. The fairy never came back, and the shepherd guy finally died of sadness and depression. On his deathbed, he said he would always wait for the fairy tower, and the soldiers buried him under the cliff of the enemy's arms as he wished."
