Japanese troops landed just south from Weihaiwei on December 20th, and quickly captured several artillery batteries along the coast. This campaign was the deadliest for the Japanese , but not because of the fierce resistance, but from bitter winter storms. The siege of the Weihaiwei port lasted 23 days. It was a combined land and naval battle, resulting in the destruction or complete surrender of the Chinese Northern Fleet and the fall of the strategic port. The Chinese pushed for negotiations a few days later.
