The newspaper Sport Italia was the official newsletter of the Sisal tote competition.
Sisal's first prediction competition was on football, known as "Totocalcio", as it was called in the pages of this newspaper in 1947. The second one was "Totip" in 1948.
Sport Italia was printed on yellow paper, to distinguish itself from the many post-war sports newspapers, and consisted of four pages.
The name was based on SISAL: an acronym for Sport Italia Società a Responsabilità Limitata.
The "R" was left out to make the word "Sisal" more readable.
The newspaper, distributed throughout Italy, contained articles by famous sports journalists such as Bruno Roghi, communicated the winning slips and often promoted awareness campaigns, for example, supporting the campaign f"or the unemployed".
After the war, Sisal asked potential winners to allocate part of their winnings to the less fortunate and undertook to pay funds to the Italian state, announcing and thanking benefactors for supporting the fund-raising effort in the newspaper.
The first issue of Sport Italia came out four days before the first Totocalcio competition explaining how to play the first betting slip using the 1X2 formula invented by Sisal.
