A neatly executed and most delicately modelled terracotta plaque presenting Sita the wife of Rama, the hero of the epic Ramayana, seated under the Ashoka tree. She is lost in deep thoughts, as indicated by her facial expression as well as by her posture-right hand on cheek and left placed on thigh. Her coiffure and ornaments are simply carved. This is one of the outstanding examples of the Gupta classical art which is marked by the minimum ornaments and maximum of bhava or emotion.
