The inscription inside the garland at the top of the sitarah states that it was made for Bab Jibril ('Gate of Gabriel' – one of the doors in the eastern wall of the Prophet's mosque). Below it are verses 193–5 from Surat al-Shu'ara', XXVI, 'The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it [the Qur'an] down/ upon your heart [O! Muhammad], that you may be of the warners/ in a clear Arabic language.'
