In the 1980s, Max Headroom originated as a computer-generated character to promote Coca-Cola. The popular figure went on to star in his own television series (it lasted for the 1987 season only) about a postapocalyptic future where televison studios ruled the world. Max appeared as a blond-haired head in a box and had the personality of a game show host. Max still has a following; and on the internet, there is talk of a feature-length movie in the works. Coca-Cola's "C-C-C-Catch the wave" slogan for its beverage seemed tailor-made for skateboarding. In the mid-1980s, the sport enjoyed a well-sustained revival among adolescents and youngsters, spawning numerous fanzines, a merchandising frenzy, new fashions, and the "thrash rock" lifestyle.
