The Condliff family started manufacturing clocks in Liverpool in 1816. Condliff were famous for their spectacular skeleton clocks. Housed in a glass dome, these timepieces were designed to display their inner workings and mechanisms. These were extremely popular during the Victorian period and satisfied a growing fascination with developing machine technologies. This example was displayed at the London World’s Fair in 1862.
