Peary designed sledge. A runner of solid oak or hickory with steel shod wooden shoes two inches wide. Rounded bow of hickory connected the two bow ends. Peary designed the upstanders to be slanting backwards on the sledge, different from the native designs, in order to provide lifting leverage. The only native method used on the sledge was the method of lashing. On a level surface this sledge should support 1000-1200lbs.
