Smile

A S says: "Susan was a gift to paint. The image of a single nurse smiling in the face of crisis reminded me of why I chose to take up the NHS Portraits for Heroes scheme. Not only was it wonderful to gift something to a fantastically brave front-line worker, it was also important to capture the human side of the pandemic. Even though you cannot see her smile, you know it is there, shining through the mask. It felt important for me to capture that.

During a crisis, the personal touch could all but be forgotten but Susan is a perfect distillation of the spirit of the NHS."
