This Fact Sheet is by the government department that oversaw energy research and development, nuclear weapons, and naval reactors programs.
The Energy Research and Development Administration was activated on January 19, 1975 and was the result of a split from the Atomic Energy Commission who had been previously responsible for nuclear research. This fact sheet was made public during the mission but was not highly publicized because of the sensitivity of the public toward the use of nuclear energy.
