Socrates Iordanidis (1912-1985)
Born in Istanbul and settled in Thessaloniki in 1922, Iordanidis was coming from a photographic family. A press and theater photography professional, Iordanidis covered also for many years the events of the Thessaloniki International Fair, the State Theater of Northern Greece, the State Orchestra of Northern Greece, the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, as well as other institutions and organizations. He also recorded in the city’s streets the subtle contrast between the historical and the modern, the old urban tradition and the adaptation to the main stream consumerism trend that boosted post-war societies. The largest part of the Socrates Iordanidis archive belongs to MOMus – Thessaloniki Museum of Photography.
