All Apollo astronauts utilized this type of communications cap during launch, inside the lunar module, on the lunar surface, and during reentry. Due to its resemblance to the popular Peanut character, Snoopy, it quickly earned the nickname "Snoopy Cap" by the astronauts who wore it. Notice the two microphones on either side of the cap. Inside are also two earphones. This dual system ensured that a microphone or earphone failure would not disable communications with the astronaut.
