Alma Thomas was inspired by the Apollo 11 Moon landing, which provided the theme for her second major group of paintings. In 1969 she began the "Space" or "Snoopy" series. "Snoopy" was the call sign for the Apollo 10 lunar module. Many of the paintings from this series are large vibrant works with implied movement achieved through floating patterns of broken colors against a white background.
