Soapstone

National Museums of Kenya

National Museums of Kenya
Nairobi, Kenya

A piece of soapstone about seven inches long with a blunt end, roughly axe shaped. It is made by a specialist of any clan and used to castrate cows by men. The cord of the bulls testicles is crushed between the stone and a piece of wood resting on another stone. In case one didn't own this stone, they borrowed it from their neighbours in exchange for liquor.
