Sofia and the Mountain

NIMISeptember 2016

Nuart

Nuart
Stavanger, Norway

For his mural "Sofia and the Mountain", the artist chose his daughter as the model — depicting her carrying one of Norway's most famous landmarks, the Pulpit Rock, on her back.

The artist describes the piece as a comment on the world in which his children are growing up: "It stands for the pride I have in my children. That they should be seen and heard: a force for good and a benefit to the society and land that they are a part of and that is part of them."

The Pulpit Rock is a cliff rising 604 meters above Lysefjorden and is located approximately 40 minutes from Stavanger by car. Atop the cliff sits a roughly 25 by 25 meter flat top, and the site sees up to 200.000 visitors annually.

NIMI, who originally hails from South Africa, is a street artist based in Bergen, Norway. He is best known for his intricate mural work and has been part of the Nuart Festival in Stavanger and Aberdeen.
