Egypt was a very interesting topic for M. K. Čiurlionis. He has never visited this country, but we can find in the letters and memories of his brothers and sisters that he often talked about wanting to travel and see these lands. It is no coincidence as he lived during the time when Egyptology and Egyptian research was prominent in the European society. Even if some of the pyramyds are not entirely realistic (they are cone shaped), we see the exotic topic explored in a musical painting form. The sonata starts with Allegro where we see pyramyds and the main theme - the praying / grieving person between palms and cone shaped pyramyds. Even though the painting is bright, the lightnings show that there is hidden pain. Here we also see stairs - another M. K. Čiurlionis prefered motif for journey.
