During the Civil War, Charles Magnus, a New York City printer and publisher, sold patriotic envelopes, song sheets and songbooks. This songbook with "elaborately colored" images contains new lyrics to six popular military and patriotic songs. This illustrated works include "The Captain With His Whiskers," "Want ? A Substitute," and "Dixie's Land," (with new verses based on the well-known "Dixie").
