Song-dynasty Big Iron Scissors

Arts & Crafts Museum Hangzhou

Arts & Crafts Museum Hangzhou
Hangzhou, China

This pair of scissors has a special appearance with two crescent-shaped blades, on the narrower one of which there is a fuller. Followed the blades are the long iron strips before they are nailed together. The finger bows are so large that they can only be handled with two hands combined. It is speculated that this pair of scissors, quite rare among scissors of the same period, should have been crafted for special use, for cutting things that are large or firm, for instance, based on the form and method of application.
