When introduced by the British in 1916 during World War I, the Sopwith “Pup” proved to be an effective, highly maneuverable fighter aircraft. This type aircraft holds the distinction as the first to land aboard a moving naval ship, the HMS Furious, on August 2, 1917. Although a reproduction, this particular aircraft is one of eight built in the 1970s from original Sopwith Company plans and was flyable when donated to the Museum.
