Sound Suit

Nick Cave2012

The work of Nick Cave (Fulton, United States, 1959) evidences the artist’s radical commitment to diversity and social struggle. These interests are manifested in a body of work linked to the object trouvé, where the street is the source of inspiration. Soundsuit, a sculpture in the form of a suit under which social class, gender or race disappears, is the representation of these concepts. The first of these garments was created in 1992 as a protest against a series of police charges that took place in Los Angeles. These works, halfway between sculpture and performance, depersonify the subject that wears them, leaving out all the prejudices that surround us.
