In the Eastern Taiwan Strait the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin has been listed as critically endangered subpopulation by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in 2008. This population is estimated to be around 100 animals by various research teams based on Photo-identification methods. They are reported to favor in shallow waters less than 15 meters in depth. This adult female was named “Fishhook” by the researchers of National Taiwan University. She had been sighted in coastal waters in Miaoli, Taichung, and Changhwa from 2007 to 2009. Fishhook was stranded on the beach in Miaoli on 25th September 2009, and transported to NMNS for necropsy and permanent collection.
