South West Tower on Fire

Alexandra Palace caught fire for a second time in 1980. The fire started in the Great Hall and spread west, destroying much of the western side of the building. The south west tower was gutted and although it did not collapse, it was structurally unsound. It was reconstructed using original and new fabric in the following rebuilding.
