Zhang Di (1917-2010) was born in Heishan, Liaoning Province. He is a famous contemporary Chinese painter, cartoonist, muralist, calligrapher, arts and crafts artist, art educator, art theorist, and one of the national emblem designers of the People's Republic of China. In 1932, he studied in the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting of Beiping Art College. In 1933, he began cartoon creation. In 1938, he taught in the Department of Fine Arts of Yan'an Luxun Art College. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he has successively been a professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, chairman of the Department of Practice, president of the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts, director of the Chinese Artists Association, vice-chairman of the Chinese Arts and Crafts Association, member of the Arts Committee of the Ministry of Culture, member of the Chinese Federation, president of Huang Binhong Research Association, etc. After renaming the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts as the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University, he returned to serve as the first studio doctoral tutor of the Department of Fine Arts. He has held exhibitions in Paris, Italy, Singapore, Korea, Beijing, Nanjing, Xi'an, Yunnan, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning and Hong Kong. His representative works include the giant fresco "Nezha conquering the sea", dark dry ink painting "Praise to Giant Tree", "Green Shujiang" and so on. He has more than 10 collections of paintings published, such as Zhang Di's Dark Dry Ink Landscape Paintings and Zhang Di's Paintings.
