Soviet Ilyuchin-76 heavy freight carrier transports CERN detector equipment

On Tuesday 21 February, a Soviet llyushin-76 heavy freight aircraft landed at Cointrin airport with an important cargo of electronic detector equipment for CERN's NA4. On board were fifty large wire proportional chambers and associated apparatus, together weighing 10 tons, supplied by the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, Dubna, USSR .
