Ömer Uluç was born in Istanbul in 1931. While studying engineering at Robert College between 1949-1953 he began his art education at the studio of Nuri İyem, studying life and still-life drawing. At first he did figural paintings, but after joining the Attic Painters group founded by Nuri İyem and other artists he turned to abstract expressionism in reaction to academicism. After graduating in 1953 Ömer Uluç went to the United States where he completed a post-graduate degree in engineering in 1957, meanwhile continuing to paint. He participated in the São Paulo Biennale in 1969 and the International Istanbul biennales in 1987 and 1989, and in 1970 was awarded first prize in the TRT Painting Competition.
