Reproduction of the first flag ever used by the Civil Guard. It was allocated to the now defunct First Unit (Primer Tercio) by Royal Order on March 8, 1854, and had to comply with sections I and X of the army’s general ordinances, and the Royal Order of October 13, 1843. During the reign of Isabella II, it was decreed that the flags of the Army (Ejército de Tierra), Navy (Armada), and National Militia (Milicia Nacional) should bear the same red and yellow colors as the national ensign, with the royal coat of arms in the center and the branch, number, and battalion of the regiment written around it. They had to be square, measuring 1.47 m (4.82 ft) on each side, and a supplementary regulation to the Royal Order of 1843 established that the X-shaped Cross of Burgundy should be placed behind the royal coat of arms.
