Spearhead

United Kingdom

Spear with an expanded central section, possibly used as a standard rather than a weapon. A large number of spear heads have been found at Chesters - a total of 63 in all. About a third of these are of a curious type with expanded middle sections like numbers 1 and 2 in this group. It is unlikely that these could have been used as weapons. They possibly had a ceremonial purpose.
