Speeches on the formation of the Women's Liberal Unionist Association : delivered at a meeting held on July 5th, 1888, by kind permission of the Dowager Lady Stanley of Alderley, at 40, Dover Street, W. Though the Women's Liberal Unionist Association was a relatively modest organisation in terms of its size, it included members prominent in the suffrage campaign including Millicent Fawcett. This is useful in displaying some of the wider social and political contexts within which the campaign for women's enfranchisement was occurring. The organisation was one which opposed the attempts for Irish Home Rule, while the pro-Home Rule Irish Parliamentary Party opposed the campaign for women's suffrage.
