Fan made entirely of mother of pearl; the sticks carved, pierced, painted and gilt with figures dancing and playing musical instruments.

The leaf is made of fine sheets of burgau, a type of sea snail shell prized for its iridescent, translucent quality.

The verso is reinforced with gold paper and leather.
