One of the two Spencer Carbines carried by John Wilkes Booth during his escape after he assassinated President Abraham Lincoln on April 14, 1865. One of the guns was found at Mary Surratt’s tavern in Maryland. The canvas sling allowed Booth to wear the gun over his shoulder.
