Friday Harbor, United States

At Bobo funeral ceremonies, many masks perform together to escort the dead spirits that have not been able to escape their earthly abode to the realm of the ancestors. To the loud accompaniment of horns and drums, funeral maskers spin, twirl and jump their way through a set of acrobatic dances designed to awaken the spirits and the dead. This powerful spectacle drives away any souls who outstay their welcome in the living world.
